Review
The 1900s called. They want their burger back.

This burger is an homage to Louis' Lunch, an eatery opened in 1895(!) that is famous for being recognized by The Library of Congress as the birthplace of the first hamburger. Big shoes to fill, eh?

I'm not going to pretend to know what the original tastes like. All I can say is that I was honestly not particularly impressed by this one. I don't know if it was because of the beef blend that Hood uses not pairing particularly well with toast or that I've just been spoiled by buns. But the fact is that it just doesn't measure up to its brethren on the same menu.

Just to be clear: I'm not saying it's bad. Just not as good as Hood's other burgers.

Hood used to offer Louis Lunch on their regular menu a few days a week (if memory serves). At some point, however, it was discontinued and is now only offered sporadically - as a Special Edition, in my parlance.
Having said that, the version offered since 2023 differs from the original. And to add another little wrinkle to this complication: I'm not sure if this burger was on Hood's menu since the beginning or not.
I have thus been forced to make an executive decision: the older version of this burger is now equipped with a "2012" signifier (the year of Hood's founding) and the newer versions are equipped with the "2023" signifier (the year the recipe first changed). If someone corrects me on these numbers I will make the necessary changes. For now, this delineation stands.
