Raison D'être

This website exists for two reasons:

It all started one day when a good friend invited me to an upcoming event he discovered, hitherto unknown to us: Pivo & Burger Fest (hereafter "Burgerfest", as I like to call it, denoting the part that actually matters). As we clearly know today, this was a pivotal moment in history that would eventually lead to this, the most useful resource on the internet*.

Fast forward one year. I was on my third Burgerfest and I had a problem. I had forgotten some of the establishments I visited during the first two. This was not ideal. If the joint was good I would obviously want to return to it. If it was bad, I would want to avoid it. If I didn't remember it, it became a gamble. It did not feel good to participate in this culinary Russian roulette.

I decided then and there this cannot stand. When the event was over I went home and wrote down all the burgers I could remember ÷ be it from Burgerfests or elsewhere - and some brief notes about them. The rest is history.

At some point between all those Burgerfests I also noticed a glaring lack of burger pundits in our country. I scoured the internet (by which I mean searched for like three queries on Google and skimmed the first page of results) for any good review sites. My search always yielded very poor results.

I found two websites from the locals back in the day. The first was a blog with few reviews which as far as I can tell hasn't been updated since 2015. The second was a website with actual scores and with quite a few reviews. Sadly, the authors' tastes seemed too different from mine for me to find it very useful. I also suspected the site had been abandoned - a suspicion which proved correct as it was taken down a year or so after I found it.

There are of course sites like Tripadvisor out there but for my specific use case they tend to not be very helpful. For example, I'll see user-posted pictures of burgers on a restaurant's page only to discover the burger was discontinued or was a one-off special. Or the restaurant will have decent reviews but it's for reasons other than food quality. Or I'll go digging through the reviews and manage to actually find a review of a specific burger only to discover to my horror the reviewer gave it 1/10 because it had bacon in it (or something equally unbelievable).

In conclusion, I made this list because if you want something done and done right, you have to do it yourself**. And as I've demonstrated, people can clearly not be entrusted with this undertaking.

Thus, the responsibility falls on me.

* Oh, that's cute. You thought I was actually going to qualify that statement. Hell no! This is the greatest fucking repository of knowledge ever assembled! Don't @ me.

** By which I of course mean pester my brother for months to help me work on actually difficult parts of this website's code and ship it. Couldn't have done without you, bro. Much love. :)
