Review
Great steak sandwich due toi genuine improvement, best steak sandwich due to meta shift.

There's an important bit of info I left ou of my older review that I should've mentioned: the main reason I was harsh on this sandwich initially was poor consistency. There were many times I received this sandwich with Provolone decidedly unmelted. And it's just a poor experience eating a steak sandwich with unmelted cheese.

Having said that, I ordered this sandwich several times over the past two years (2025-2026) and I'm happy to report this issue seems to have been addressed.

As for the meta comment, unfortunately, Lars & Sven has since closed its doors (a travesty!) and Philly Cheese is no longer obtainable. By process of elimination, Hood Steak takes the crown by default.

The only thing I'm really missing in this sandwich is a touch of acidity. Lars & Sven achieved this by adding beer to their caramelized onions. Hood's onions offer no such acidity, leaving the sandwich a touch one-dimensional compared ot its former rival.

But make no mistake: this is a minor nitpick. It's a great sandwich.

Decent but hardly memorable.

All right, listen up. Even this is still not a burger. Two words: beef patty. Hood only got the second half right.

And before the apologists come out of the woodwork and start with all the "but it's called a 'steak', not a 'burger'," nonsense: it's listed under burgers on the menu. Didn't think I'd notice, did you? Well, you're WRONG!

Labels aside, while this thing is worth a shot it is ultimately overshadowed by its arch nemesis: the venerable Philly Cheese of House Lars & Sven.

I go into greater detail as to why exactly that is in its review. Sufficed to say: if you insist on Provolone and don't want Cheddar, you owe it to yourself try Philly Cheese one at some point. And if a different choice of cheese doesn't bother you then give Hood's Chilli Cheese Steak Sandwich a shot.
