I intentionally missed the first production run of this burger. I took one look at the photo, saw the prominently placed pickles glaring back at me, and gave it no further thought. The second time I caved and decided to just get it over with. You know, for completionism's sake.
The main comparison point (and the reason for my lack of enthusiasm) for this burger I had was Hood's own Oklahoma. I like Oklahoma-style burgers conceptually but I'm of the opinion Hood botched their own version with ill-considered ingredients. Street Surfer, specs-wise, has essentially the same build.
But it turns out it contains one additional ingredient that basically fixes my main issue with Hood's Oklahoma: ketchup. The sweetness it brings is a sufficient counterweight against the pickles and mustard and brings the burger back into equilibrium.
I can therefore happily recommend this burger. That said, if you're after a smash burger I still think Jake'n'Jay is just strictly better (and available year-round).
